Yeah, this isn't a burger or steak but it's a recent food experience that needs to be shared. It doesn't feel right calling this a breakfast sandwich. Just because I ate it for breakfast, does that mean it should be classified as such? I mean, the bun was a glazed donut. Donuts are breakfast... Fried Chicken and Waffles? Definitely a breakfast item. So here I am leaving a medical lab where I just gave blood to lower my health insurance premium and make sure I'm semi-healthy. It's 9:30am and I'm starving. I had to fast for the previous 12 hours leading up to this so that meant no breakfast beforehand. I'm a breakfast guy and I need it as soon as I wake up. These new diets nowadays that skip breakfast would never work for me. It'd get ugly. Almost a little too conveniently, right next door to the medical lab is Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken. Game on. Chicken Sandwiches and Donuts. Two beautiful creations. Oh wait. I can combine the two? What I have a stumbled upon... I was a little hesitant but why not. Live it up. I might as well eat this before I get the cholesterol results from my blood-work and find out I should never eat anything like this. Now that I'm committed to this hybrid breakfast/lunch/dessert sandwich, I need to decide what donut is going to be my bun. Anything goes. Chocolate Old Fashioned, Michigan Apple Fritter, Cinnamon Crunch... I wanted them all. That being said, I felt like I was already being so aggressive with this meal and didn't know how well the donut/fried chicken combo would mesh so I kept it simple and classic with the Vanilla Bean Glazed. 25 cents extra to make it spicy? Yes, please. I'm happy to report that it meshes. It meshes very well. Part of what makes it mesh well is the quality of the donut and the chicken. The chicken is nice and crispy on the outside yet still juicy on the inside. It's got some girth to it too. It's not your typical thin fast food patty. The donut was fresh, warm, fluffy and had the perfect amount of glazed sweetness that blended well with the spice from the chicken. The spiciness actually lacked a little. Possibly due to the donut but considering it was still before 10am, that was probably for the best. Did I feel this donut inside of me the rest of the day? Yes. Did I feel a little uncomfortable at work? Absolutely. Did I have any regrets? Zero. I will eat this again. I may be more strategic and plan for a Sunday when it's more suitable to feel like garbage for 6 hours though. Being 32 will not stop me from eating wonderful creations like this. I will continue to fight through the pain. Over and out.
