The Tigers have been pretty mediocre so far this year. There have been bright spots (Matt Boyd, Shane Greene, awesome 1st week), but the lack of offensive talent has been obvious. We are in “trust the process” mode with the Tigers, so it’s worth noting that the process is showing signs of life in Erie, PA. The last three first round draft picks have all been right handed pitchers (Matt Manning, Alex Faedo, Casey Mize). They are all currently playing for AA Erie. Faedo last start (4/24): 7 IP, 5 K, 1 BB, 0 H Mize debut (4/28): 9 IP, 7 K, 1 BB, 0 H A nice 16 innings of no-hit baseball in the last week from the previous two #1 draft picks. Matt Manning has been excellent so far this year as well (2-0, 1.59 ERA). It will be interesting to see the path these pitchers take to the big league level over the next couple of years. There’s no need to overreact to AA baseball results in April, but no hitting a team at any level is extremely impressive and at least gives a glimpse into the kind of talent that the Tigers are trying to prepare for the MLB.
