The 5 million dollar, 30 second, Superbowl ad that KIA ran really caught my eye but probably like most of us we saw KIA at the end and dismissed it as garbage (sorry any current KIA owners). It did lead me to giving it a “Google” though, which in turn changed my perspective a bit almost to the point where I’d give them a chance. I have to admit the styling is excellent, it has the looks of a mashup of the Tahoe and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Nice lines, and the dark green color that ran in the Ad looked really sharp as well. The interior has the looks of any modern luxury SUV as well with 7 passenger seating and 10 inch touchscreen. It doesn’t seem like the average KIA you once thought of getting a brand new vehicle for 10k and parking around the corner so no one sees you bit either. They have re-branded with these higher end models like the Telluride. So instead of paying 70k for a nice Tahoe, you could affordably get the high end Telluride just over 40k. The Telluride is built here in the good ole US of A as well, it’s not the cheap Asian import of 20 years ago. It reminds me a bit of Talladega Nights, when Rickie Bobby responds to the, “why do you think I came to America” question. “For Taco Bell, Public Schools, Pizza and affordable healthcare.” I can just see him adding “KIA vehicles” in that response as well. Though KIA has been the butt of many jokes I think when I’m ready to buy into the SUV market they may be one of the first dealerships I visit.
