In all likelihood, it will be a tough year for the Detroit Tigers to be competitive. Thereis an obvious gap of talent between their roster and the top dogs in the AL. A good deal of the guys on the opening day roster are unrecognizable or dealing with some degree of job insecurity.
Miguel Cabrera is not one of those guys. He is a baseball legend, and a Tiger for life.Miggy suffered a severe biceps injury that shut down his entire 2018 season. A lot ofpeople have been pretty quick to write him off as old and in the twilight of his career. He is entering his age 36 season, which led me to look at someone I viewed as a valid comparison for what Cabrera might have left. From the age of 36-40, David Ortiz averaged:
133 Games Played
35 Doubles
100 RBI
33 HR
296 BA
To think that this is outside of the realm of possibility for our generation’s only Triple Crown winner seems a little foolish. I won’t get into his Spring Training numbers this year because nobody cares, but they are very good. The bottom line is that he is currently healthy and an all time great hitter who will be motivated to reach Hall of Fame “check mark” milestones (500 HR, 3,000 Hits). I simply refuse to believe that Miguel Cabrera doesn’t have more legendary hitting left in the tank.
