MSU’s basketball team is 5 games into their B1G season and the good news is they have been performing on a steady, positive clip (I write this the day before we play underwhelming PSU on the road, so of course we will lose that game now). But this ‘Column’ isn’t about about this season’s trajectory and ceiling (don’t worry, that’s coming), it’s about this team’s unlikely, and unexpected X-factor. That’s right, I’m talking about a little player called...Ahrens!
Fight me, Kyle Ahrens is this team’s X-Factor. Sure, you can make a case for Xavier Tillman being that guy, but that would be easy, plus Kyle can provide an impact on so many different areas of the game. He can hit the long ball, rebound, defend out of position, and attack the rim. Most of the haters out there, of which there are many, will tell me I’m wrong. And that’s fine, but the reality is...they’re (or you) are WRONG! KA has already shown his value in crucial points in games. You heard it here first that trend will continue to happen and MSU will have a game in March where a big play to keep MSU alive. Think Delvon Roe against Northern Iowa with his trailing put-back dunk. Also, I didn’t make this pick last week or after the Florida game. I made this decision early in the preseason, when most pundits were forecasting Ahrens graduating early or being a possible transfer candidate. Which blew my mind. You have to remember we have never really seen the same Kyle Ahrens that Mr. Tom Izzo did when he recruited him out of Versailles OH (don’t fact check that location, just trust me). That player was supposed to have a great 3pt shot and above average athleticism, which is just code for “he’s white and can dunk...in a game.” Also, I have proof that I was on this bandwagon early, just peep the date:
My only regret is I didn’t put proof on the internet earlier than December. Yet another instance where I was right before everyone and merely decided not to brag about it until later. Don’t like it? Deal with it
